Mutual Aid & Networks of Care
This interview-based study provides an interdisciplinary insight into the inner workings of mutual aid organizations and other community-based care collectives. By interviewing organizers and group members from both the New York/New Jersey and Los Angeles County areas, this study looks at spatial distribution of groups, what forms of aid are most needed in these areas, how these groups interact with other entities such as non-profits and federal/state institutions, and why these groups form and endure.Perceptions of Activism
Many social issues such as climate change and economic inequality require individual as well as structural action to enact changes in policies & social structures. The organizing of individuals through collective action and activism is one way to amplify the individual opinions held by many. This survey aims to determine how effective the general public perceives activists to be and whether some forms of activism are more impactful or permissible than others. Additionally, an activist sample aims to understand norms within activist groups, as well as their own perceived effectiveness at enacting change. -
Internal Climate-Induced Migration
Climate change will inevitably cause a shift in ‘liveable’ zones throughout the United States and the world. This shift will likely cause an influx in the number of people moving/planning to move, but it will also leave the most vulnerable people subject to the harshest environments, as only those without the means to relocate will be left in unstable regions. Across multiple surveys at various scales, we investigate intentions to migrate internally, reasons for choosing to migrate, and assess if beliefs and attitudes toward incoming domestic migrants are conducive to a future of internal displacement within the United States. -
